Did you know that the English spelling system is structured and intentional. There are no "oddball spellings" or "rule breakers" because the things about how a word is spelled that creates confusion likely has a story to explain it. Understanding words and how they are built is a key piece to vocabulary development at any age. Morphology is specifically referenced in the new ELAL curriculum in grades K-6 and can be leveraged to build understanding of content area words across subject areas. This session will offer some foundational understanding about morphology (and orthography in general) as well as some strategies and ideas you can use in your classroom right away.
