This session presents the results of a pilot project undertaken at the Common Ground Garden Project in Red Deer by Ms. Beebe, her Grade 4 class, and the staff and volunteers of the community garden. Learning activities included caring for the garden - planting, harvesting, creating recipes from the produce, and contributing to community charities. Activities addressed curriculum in Science, Math, Language Arts, Art, and Health. As a result of their labour, the class received the first and third prizes in the Canadian Geographic Queen's Jubilee Contest for 2022.
Participants in the session will have access to learning activities, curriculum links, recipes, and suggestions for modifications to create a school yard based program.
