Establishing Positive HABITS for Strong Fundamental Skills in Beginner Band

Through hands-on experiences, instrumental music educators will address the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed for beginners to successfully engage in music making on woodwind, percussion, and brass instruments. The workshop will develop pedagogical and content knowledge in designing successful warm-ups, addressing instrument fundamentals, as well as engaging in short and long-term planning strategies to focus and motivate young musicians in their development. Participants will explore resources and strategies that support beginning efforts in music making so that students truly enjoy playing by themselves and with others!  All participants are strongly encourage to bring along instruments - for example, a flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone - for hands on music making every hour in instrument fundamentals, classroom materials, rehearsal strategies, planning, and management. Mistakes welcome and celebrated as we learn from one another!

THIS SESSION WILL BE HELD AT École Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School (4204 58 St, Red Deer, AB T4N 2L6) in the BAND ROOM.
