Understanding that Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading developmental disability in Canada and is life-long, educators can expect to support at least one student with FASD each year. The impact of alcohol exposure on brain development is often seen in the classroom as behaviour difficulties, social and peer issues, gross and fine motor challenges, and an inability to retain learning. Educators apply best practice methods to students with FASD and often question or wonder why the students continue to make poor social choices or fail to achieve academically. Balancing foundational knowledge of FASD and practical ideas to support students, this session aims to equip educators with take-away strategies to inform their practice.
