My education career began in 1980 when I began my training at the University of Winnipeg. In 1984 I started my first teaching position in a small northern Manitoba village named Cranberry Portage with Frontier Collegiate Institute, a 7-12 school. I went north for 2 years and stayed for 17. I was never very good at math. These were great years where I learned so much. I met many educators and students that were first class in every way. While there I continued my own education by obtaining a PGD Ed and an MEd. I had an opportunity to receive a sabbatical leave in 1990 where I attended the University of Calgary in 1990. This experience gave me the Alberta bug. Ten years later I returned to Alberta, moving to the small community of Sedgewick. Yup! I never hear of it before either. I became the new vice-principal of the 1-12 school, Central High Sedgewick Public School, and remained there until 2016, after serving as principal my last 9 years. I finished the formal part of my public education career as principal of Tofield School, a grade 5-12 school in June 2018. My education journey has brought me into contact with some of the best people, both colleagues and students, and I have had life changing experiences along the way. Now I write, promote my little consulting company, and substitute teach with my former school district. And in the summer if you need a wood fence built, I am your guy. I look forward to attending the CATC and meeting more new educators. My wife and I have 6 grown children and 7 grandchildren, with one more on the way. I look forward to being at the CATC and participating in the convention with you.
